Why Pushya is considered the most auspicious nakshatra

Pushya (also spelled Pushyami or Tishya) is the 8th of the 27 nakshatras, spanning 3°20' to 16°40' in Cancer. Its symbol is a flower, udder or circle; its deity is Brihaspati (Jupiter, the guru of the gods); and its ruling planet is Saturn. The combination of Moon's sign Cancer, Jupiter's divine blessing as deity, and Saturn's discipline as lord makes Pushya uniquely suited for starting things you want to last.

Ancient texts describe Pushya as a nakshatra that can purify any undertaking. The Muhurta Chintamani states that Pushya is powerful enough to sanctify activities that would otherwise require careful election, making it the go-to muhurta for house entries (griha pravesh), vehicle purchases, gold buying, new business launches and education starts.

Why 2026 Pushya dates are unusually strong

Jupiter (Guru) entered its exaltation sign Cancer on June 2, 2026. Cancer is the sign where Pushya nakshatra sits. When the Moon transits Pushya while Jupiter is also in Cancer (the same sign), you get Moon in Pushya's degrees in Cancer with the most benefic planet also present in that sign. This enhances the natural auspiciousness of Pushya considerably.

This condition applies to all Pushya transits from June 15-16 onwards through the end of 2026. The July 12-13 Ravi Pushya is the standout date: Sunday (Ravi), Moon in Pushya (most auspicious nakshatra), Jupiter exalted in Cancer (same sign). This combination is rare and considered exceptional for any important beginning.

Additionally, Saturn ruled Pushya but is in Pisces in 2026, which is neutral to positive. There are no major malefic influences expected on Pushya dates in 2026 that would cancel the muhurta value. Pushya is traditionally avoided for: marriage ceremonies (marriage during Pushya is not recommended in most traditions, though some regional panchang traditions differ). This is the one notable exception, and it stems from Pushya being considered too powerful a Saturn-ruled nakshatra for the softness that marriage muhurtas ideally require.

Ravi Pushya Yoga occurs when the Moon is in Pushya nakshatra on a Sunday (Ravi = Sun). Sunday is Sun's day, and the Sun is a friend of Saturn (Pushya's lord) in Vedic astrology. This combination is particularly prized for buying gold (Sunday being associated with gold), starting authoritative ventures and taking courageous decisions. In 2026: January 4, July 12-13 and August 9 are Ravi Pushya dates.

Guru Pushya Yoga occurs when Moon is in Pushya on a Thursday (Guru = Jupiter's day). Jupiter is the deity of Pushya (Brihaspati), so Thursday-Pushya is a natural double blessing.
